RSUST Is Back On Track – Prof. Fakae

The Vice Chancellor of Rivers State University of Science and Technology Nkpolu-Oroworukwo, Port Harcourt, RSUST, has declared to the public that RSUST is back on track.
He made this public in an address he presented on the occasion of the institution’s 24th convocation ceremony on Saturday, May 5, 2012.
Prof. Fakae also revealed that the institution has been fully accredited in A grade by the National University Commission (NUC). He also enumerated catalogues of progress the institution had recorded under his administration as vice chancellor.
He used the occasion to appeal to the governor of the state to finish the law school building, to allow students of law to fully enjoy the benefits of having a befitting law faculty.
In his address to the management and graduands of the institution, Governor Amaechi ordered the vice chancellor of the institution professor Barineme Beke Fakae to embark on massive employment of academic staff, while appealing to the management of UST to go into fresh reforms with ASUU, to have a stable and unified academic calendar and stop politicizing the employment of academic staff.
A total of 3, 541 graduands were certified as graduates, postgraduate diplomas and higher degrees in various specializations.
A breakdown of the figure indicates that 3,219 of the total figure received first degrees, 85 postgraduate diplomas, 215 masters and 22 doctorate degrees.
Others are, First class 3, Second class upper, 319, Second class lower, 1,645, third class 210 and 42 meriting pass, totaling 3,219.
The highlight of the occasion was the conferment of an honorary degree in law on former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Odein Ajumogobia (SAN, OFR) in recognition of his exemplary public conduct and contribution to national development.
Professor Fakae also revealed that the institution will graduate the current 2011/2012 come March 2013 in the next convocation ceremony.
The recipient of the honorary law degree, Hon. Odein Ajumogobia SAN, OFR, thanked the institution for awarding him an honorary degree in law and advised the graduands to be exemplary as they move in to be part of the larger society.
He urged them to be useful to the society with the disciplines they have acquired. ###
