Former Rivers State and Nigeria Sports exponent in the events of wrestling, judo, boxing and weightlifting, Evangelist Sokari Soberekon, has without fear or favour called on the Amaechi-led government to handover Hotel Olympia to the Rivers State Sports Council.
The veteran sports figure made this call while speaking with The Newswriter sports Editor. The active preacher of God said he was not happy with the trend of events in the area of sports development in the state, pointing out that Hotel Olympia was built for sportsmen and women and not for any other purpose by the then military governor of the state, King Alfred Diete Spiff.
He added that his main problem was that sports are dying in Rivers State. He therefore strongly appealed to the state government to handover Hotel Olympia to the state sports council.
According to him, the state government should renovate the Hotel and handover to the sports council for sports men and women in the state. This, he said, “would boost the moral of our youthful sportsmen and women to bring more laurels to the state as it was originally designed from the beginning by Diette Spiff administration.”
He boldly stated that Rivers State is blessed with lots of sporting talents in various sporting events, and urged the Amaechi government to bring the best of these sporting talents from the rural areas of the state. ###
