Twenty-two policemen and women who lost their lives in active service to the state were yesterday honoured with N1m cheque each to their families.
The officers and men range from the ranks of corporal to Inspector of police. Handing over the N1million cheques to each of the 22 deceased families, the Rivers State Commissioner of Police CP Mohammed Indabawa congratulated the State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi for his kind gesture towards the bereaved families.
The Commissioner also praised Governor Amaechi for his unreserved interest in the affairs of the state police command which has made the officers feel happy in discharging their duties effectively. “I love the gesture of the governor,” he exclaimed.
Indabawa enjoined the beneficiaries to judiciously utilize the amount especially in the training of their late bread winners’ children, saying “God will surely give those children affected what He has for them no matter that their parents are dead”.
The handing over of the amount which took place at the police officers mess yesterday featured other high ranking officers of the command and deputy director Sir Omedu Edison from the government house.
