The Rivers State Civil service, Head of Service football cup kick-off at Sharks football stadium on 30th April, 2012 with heavy present of permanent secretaries and the head of service herself, Mrs. Esther Anucha, in addition Sir. Martyn Yellow, the Rivers State chairman of Civil service commission, was also there.
The opening match witnessed the Ministry of Health, against Ministry of Works, a match that was delayed for one hour times of 3pm, whereby the delay of ministry of works, took the match to start at 5:25pm.
Both teams were not real at goal as they wasted many scoring opportunities away. First corner kick comes actually 5.40pm, immediately after the corner kick was taken the first half came to an end.
Second half resumed play 5:50pm the first goal come through a penalty kick to ministry of Health at 5:52pm the first yellow card came to ministry of Health, at 5:57pm the second yellow card was awarded to ministry of works. The moment witnessed the penalty awarded to ministry of works, which they scored, drawing the game to 1-1 apiece.
The game was brought to an end at 6.05pm by the center referee, Wokoma Innocent.
Final score in the penalty shoot out reads, ministry of Health winning the game by scoring 3-1 against ministry of works.
In her opening remarks, Mrs. Esther Anucha, Rivers State Head of Service, revealed that this edition makes it the fourth edition of the competition, pointing out that it all started at 2009 where last edition, 28 ministries registered for the competition won by ministry of special Duties.
According to her, in this edition 28 ministries had registered for this edition of the competition.
Due to the request made by the female civil servant of the state, a female 4×4 relay race had been introduce in the competition.
She advised participating ministries to exercise spirit of sportsmanship, in playing by the rules of the game. She urge all to make friends, interact with each other as the competition was created to allow civil servants exercise out of their busy work schedule.
She pointed out that disciplinary measures will be taken against any erring ministry and wish participating ministries the best of the game. With these words she declared 2012, Head of Service, civil service soccer competition opened at about 5:17pm, where she took the kick-off.
Revealing to The Newswriter sports desk briefly after the match, chairman of the central planning and publicity committees, Dr. George Nwolu disclosed that this edition has encouraging motivational incentives for the players.
According to him, most valuable player, highest goal scorer, best behave team are all in the package as they will go home happy with cash prizes including trophies.
He said this is all to motivates the players as to have their concentrated attention participate in next editions.
Next match comes up today being Thursday where ministry of Education will try defending champions, ministry of special duties for size at sharks football stadium by 3pm. ###
