The Bayelsa State government has said that it would establish a sports academy so as to train the numerous sporting talents available in the state. Governor Dickson Seriake made this public while speaking in a sports programme organized in Yenagoa.
Bayelsa State is a state of sporting talents in all ramifications counting from athletics to combat sports, not forgetting swimming and wrestling which turned out to be the state traditional right.
The state had produced seasoned sports men and women virtually in all the sports in Nigeria, some had even represented and have gone international. Till tomorrow, swimming and wrestling are sports the Nigerian nation would not want to joke with the state as it has always come to the country’s rescue when it mattered most in international sporting meets.
The current Technical Director of traditional wrestling of the country, Daniel Igali, is from Bayelsa State. Daniel Igali is an Olympic champion and had competed in the colours of Canada.
Same, the immediate past Chief coach of the Super Eagles, coach Samson Siasia, is also a Bayelsan. It is then not surprising that governor Dickson Seriake’s pronouncement is in the right direction if only it does not end up in mere public pronouncement.
The Newswriter Sports desk only wishes Governor Dickson Seriake and his purposeful cabinet just the best to actualize this noble dream to bear fruit.. ###
