The Rivers State Government has commenced the construction of the Oil and Gas Conference Centre at Rukpokwu in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.
Commissioner for Housing, Mr. Marshal Uwom stated this while addressing newsmen in his office.
According to the Commissioner the project which was awarded in 2006 at the cost of N1.4.billion had been poorly funded by previous administrations, adding that the present administration has injected more funds to ensure the completion of the project.
He said that in February 2012, N430million was released to complete the initial mobilization approval of 70 per cent of the Sub structural and fencing work while the installation of steel sanchions have commenced.
According to Mr. Uwom, the Conference Centre when completed will not only generate revenue for the State, but also reduce the challenges faced with hosting world class events within the State. ###
