The Vice Chairman of Rivers State gymnastics association, Dr. Jumai Madume has appealed to the Rivers State government under Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi to provide the association with gymnastics equipment, even as the athletes are preparing for camping in readiness to defend the gold medals they won, in the 17th national sports festival here in Port Harcourt for Rivers State.
Dr. Madume, amidst tears, spoke with The Newswriter sports desk, lamenting that despite the association’s lack of equipment it took the collective effort of the chief Coach, chairman and other members of the association to produce the result the state recorded in the 17th national sports festival.
She reminded the state sports authority that the association does not have equipment of its own which is terribly affecting the athletes.
The soft spoken sports administrator reiterated the fact that Rivers State is the defending champion come 18th national sports festival at Lagos. She pointed out that, that means that Rivers State will be the state to beat courtesy of the resounding victory the state recorded here in Port Harcourt at the 17th national sports festival.
She therefore appealed that it would be fair for the state government to provide the gymnastics equipment promised the association in order to keep the athlete in top shape, as the equipment the athletes are training with are all borrowed from Uniport.
However, Dr. Madume, also cried to members of the diplomatic community, corporate organizations, multinationals as well as well-to-do individuals who could lend a helping hand, to help the association with equipment in partnership with the state government, saying that developing sports is a collective responsibility that needs all and sundry in a large sense of responsibility. ###
