This, the commissioner of police Rivers State command told news men in his maiden press briefing in the police officers mess on Wednesday April 11, 2012, as he appealed to the press to be constructive in their reportage of events in the state and also assured them of his open door policy and availability at all times.
He expressed gratitude to members of the public for their invaluable support and collaboration, urging them to continue to assist the police, particularly in providing timely useful information on criminal activities. He said, during his courtesy visit to his Excellency Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi, the governor promised further provision of logistics to enhance the operational capability of the command.
He narrated the various achievement made so far in the month of March and part of April, 2012.
The CP re-echoed the Inspector General of Police’s zero tolerance for corruption within the force and reiterated his unwavering and unflinching commitment to doggedly fight corruption and corrupt tendencies amongst the officers and men of command. He said his predecessor showed a shining example in his fight against corruption, and that he intended to emulate him.
“The command will meticulously intensify the implementation of principles of community policing. This will be done through partnership with the press, the people of Rivers State and relevant NGOs. Consequently, the policy thrust of this administration will be service delivery. Satisfying the security yearnings of the people of Rivers State will be the focal point.
‘We will assiduously, relentlessly and unreservedly pursue with vigour the reduction of crimes and criminal in the state. The essence of this is to create an enabling atmosphere of peace and harmony, where people will be opportune to pursue their individual and various legitimate goals and enterprises free from intimidation and fear.” he said.
He added that the management team will continuously strive to plan and formulate implementable strategies that will effectively combat crime in all its ramifications.
He assured the people of Rivers State that the police have all it takes to adequately safeguard lives and properties of people of the state. ###
