The Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Chris Oboh, on Sunday, March 11, 2012, became the rallying point for old friends of the then good old school days of Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RUST) and University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) as both institutions were brought together in a novelty football match to honour Chris Oboh.
The match which is basically a platform of bringing the old friends of both institutions together, turned out to be a match likened to that of the Nigerian premier league, as both sides exhibited high quality of football artistry with ease.
Interestingly, all that matters were packed together like sardine in Sharks stadium, venue of the match. Rivers state former and present commissioners for sports happily graced the epoch-making ceremony. To cap it all, old students who passed through the two institutions came from far and near, some from Ghana, Abuja, Benin, just to cement that once cordial relationship that has been lost.
It was a ceremony really to watch as both sides played for Chris Oboh with their hearts. Chris Oboh on his own part expressed happiness and prayed such gesture continues in the future.
Uniport beat UST one zero courtesy of the penalty they scored and was given the trophy meant for the ceremony. Chris Oboh was given a plaque, while coordinator of the ceremony, Wokoma, alias Bishop, expressed satisfaction for the happy conclusion of the ceremony.
It would be recalled that Wokoma was the UST football team captain while Chris Oboh was the vice captain of the team in their set. ###
