Rivers Keke NAPEP Owner – Operators Ask Oyigbo Council To Hands-off Tricycle Union Business

Oyigbo tricycle operators protest over illegal multiple Taxation and levies.
Despite the ongoing law suit by Keke owner and Rider Association of Nigeria (Koran Rivers State Chapter) by Tricycle operators against its ban in Rivers State, the Oyigbo Local Government Council has been accused of collecting illegal multiple taxation and levies from Tricycle operators recently.
According to interlocutory injunction by presiding Judge Hon Justice E. N Ogbuji the presiding judge, stated that restraining the Defendants/Respondents, over or regarding Keke owners and riders as their members in Oyigbo Local Government or in any other Local Government Area in Rivers Sate, pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit, that an order of interlocutory injunction is also made restraining the Defendants/Respondents theft servant, privies or whosoever from intimidating, harassing, threatening or from using the Police to arrest the Claimants/Applicants in whatever quise (serve where there is an allege crime) pending the hearing and determination of the substantial suit.
In another development, the order of interlocutory injunction is granted restraining (the Defendants/Respondents, theft agent servants, privies or whosoever from using and selling the Road Transport Employer Association of Nigeria sticker and tickets to the claimants/Applicants in Oyigbo Local Government Area.
The Koran Lawyer A. A Brown Esq has written letter to the Oyigbo Council boss to step aside from collecting illegal tax and levies from Tricycle operators which is not in line with the approved tax to be collected by the council, while the case is still in the court.
Mr. John Ademole who is the Rivers State chairman said that the union has concluded plans for the legal battle over illegal multiple levies and abusing of fundamental human right.
Again, it is a responsibility of every government to provide job and empowerment for their own people, not to extort money from self commercial tricycle operators, that the Oyigbo Local Government Administration has failed the common people. ###
