The Rivers State Government has issued Award Letters to contractors whose bids were successful for the construction of 33/11 KV injection sub stations and rows for transmission lines in the State.
Speaking at the occasion, the Commissioner for Power, Hon. Augustine Nwokocha congratulated the contractors as he gave out signed copies of the contract award letters to the contractors.
Hon Wokocha advised them to take the project seriously and warned that indolence would not be tolerated on the part of the contractors as Rivers State Government intends to commission the sub stations by June 2012.
According to him, any contractor who failed to complete his project have such contract revoked and whatever such a company owes the Government would be retrieved.
He stated that money for the projects is available, adding that fund would not be an issue as the contractors will be paid once they complete each mile stone.
Hon. Nwokocha disclosed that the Ministry wilt provide equipment that are of international standard and that no sub standard equipment will be accepted, noting that Engineers from the Ministry will be conducting different tests to ascertain the quality of equipment.
The Commissioner informed the contractors that the land for the projects have been bought by Government) pointing out that what the contractors need is to go to site immediately.
Responding) Dr. Sokeiprim Amachree, Managing Director of Sigma Technical Agencies Ltd., on behalf of the contractors thanked the Hon. Commissioner for the contracts and promised to carry out the contract as specified. ###
Women Affairs Set To Mark 2012 International Women’s Day
This year’s International Women’s Day celebration is to take place in Rivers State on March 15, 2012.
Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs. Joeba West who made this known during a Management Meeting in her office recently, said each year around the World International Women’s Day (IWD) is celebrated on March 8.
Mrs. West stated that thousands of events occur not just on this day but throughout March, to mark the economic, political and social achievement of women.
She said the theme for this year is “ Connecting Girls Futures” and disclosed that the Ministry plans to hold as part of the celebration, a Peace Rally to be led by the wife of the Governor, Dame Judith Amaechi, Seminar, Food Fair by the 23 Local Government Areas.
According to her, the event will also feature formal launching of the African Women’s Decade 2010 2012 in which Dame Judith will also play a key role in order to harness and construct developmental ideas on how to create wealth and improve the lives of the Rural Women.
The Commissioner therefore called on women in the State to support the administration of Governor Amaechi in establishing policies and structures that will empower the rural women economically urging them to participate in Local and National governance processes to bring about the expected transformation that is being preach.
