The 7th Garden City Cycling competition in conjunction with the Life-Style Cycling Club of Port Harcourt, and Rivers State Cycling Association has a new winner in its organized competition last Sunday, 26th February 2012, where Goodnews Edet of life-style cycling club of Port Harcourt, made his first win in the Garden City cycling competition.
17 states entered the competition, 46 males did 12 rounds of cycling parts of Port Harcourt metropolises while the ladies did 10 rounds to produce their own winner, Adiase Glory. All male and female winners expressed joy in winning.
The race went into categories, each producing winners. Those who are expected to fly the flag of the state in the forth-coming 18th National Sport festival in Lagos are, Goodnews Edet, Caleb Kalizibe and Qudri Ajibade, respectively in that order for male, while Glory Adiase, Rita Aggo Miebaka and Tambara Gripa for female, to defend the gold medals the state won in the 17th National Sports Festival later this year.
The Italian cycling federation was well represented by its legal personnel and World Cycling Association.
Already, the Italian cycling federation has offered to lift the Rivers State cycling association by way of offering training partnership programme for Rivers state cycling association athletes.
Winners were presented with their trophies and cheque, though the amount his categories were given was not disclosed
Speaking in the occasion during the prize giving ceremony chairman of the Rivers State cycling association Pastor Alex Enebeli assured Rivers people that his association athlete discovered in the competition will make the state proud as the association is alive to it responsibility.
This was collaborated by Glory Adiase winner of the female category.
Director of sports Rivers State, represented the sports commissioner, Hon. Fred Igwe, also present was J.S kio, Director of Rivers State Sports Institute, Olusegun Akinlotani, zonal coordinator south zone amongst others. ###
