The New Nigeria People Party NNPP has given the Amaechi administration in the state pass mark. This evaluation was made by the Rivers State chairman of the party, Deacon (Prince) Enyi Princewill over the weekend in a chat with newsmen in his office.
The party however reiterated its call for a unity government in the state as promised by the governor during his campaign in order to tap more ideas from others stakeholders as according to the chairman no man is an encyclopedia of knowledge.
“People with alternative ideas should be given an opportunity to contribute their quota in the overall interest of the state and as much as possible the winner takes all syndrome should be discouraged in politics.
On the recent Supreme Court judgment that sacked the five (5) state governors, the party expressed disappointment over the development in as much as it would not agree that the ruling People Democratic Party is teleguided the judiciary.
“We still believe the judiciary to be the last hope of the common man but one cannot reconcile the Supreme Court pronouncement that restored Gov. Peter Obi of Anambra state urging him to complete his tenure from where ex-governor Chris Ngige stopped and the recent one that sacked the governors for over staying their tenure.”
The Political Scientist cum Agriculturist described the development as the beginning of a political disintegration over time table and tenureship which he noted requires further legal interpretation to avoid setting a confusing precedence.
On the Boko Haram Islamic sect’s insurgence and the way forward for the embattled nation, NNP described them as ugly monsters who did not have any reason to disturb the country, unlike the ex-militants who we all know were agitating for control of their resources in order to address the marginalization and oil pollution in the Niger Delta region.
The party renewed its call for a national conference which might not be sovereign as the Nigerian constituency is supreme in this regards.
On the relationship between the Legislature and the Executives in the state, Hon. Princewill said it was cordial but that the two arms of government should be seen as maintaining their independence in as much as they should not be antagonistic to each other in course of their duties.
On the brewing crises between the former chief of staff, Govt House, Port Harcourt Chief Nyeson Wike and the Governor which has rubbed off on the successor of the office Chief Tony Okocha, the NNPP chairman likened it as a misunderstanding between husband and wife which would soon be over and advised their supporters not to over react in the interest of tomorrow.
He made it known that the Ikwerre Youth Movement crises of confidence should not be elevated to the state level advising Hon. Okocha not to be distracted from his duty calls to serve Rivers people at that capacity. ###
