Egurugu Street Residents Cry Out Over Indiscriminate Disconnection … Power Holding In Shady Deal

The people of Egurugu Street of Oroikpo, off Ada George Road, have cried out over the frequent disconnection of their cables by Power Holding Company of Nigeria, PHCN, in the area.
According to sources, some officials make it their stock in trade to constantly disconnect Egurugu Street from enjoying the light.
Residents of the street had earlier reported the matter to the chairman of the Electricity committee in the area, who explained that he is aware of the incessant disconnections which according to him, makes residents to contribute special packages to the officials after disconnecting.
The people noted that they do not owe the Power Holding as they pay their bills as at when due and wondered why they are suffering this for some time now.
It could be recalled that in the past when their transformers where bad, residents contributed N5,000 each which amounted to a huge amount of money to overcome the transformer problem, but the current predicament is so bad that they are cut off from the current events happening in the state since they cannot afford the high cost of fuel for their private generators.
Investigation revealed that there are people who connive with some officials of Power Holding to disconnect the High Tension cable at the Wimpey by Iwofe junction, thereby depriving the people connected to the axis.
Some of those who complained said they lack drinking water which could cause outbreak of waterborne diseases, even as they no longer iron their clothes.
Those who are affected told journalists that some of them were calling Power Holding officials in charge of the area but has no positive result. They pleaded with the authorities of Power Holding to prevail on those who are spoiling their linage to have a change of heart, while calling on the Rivers state government under the ministry of Power to set up high powered investigation team to unravel the mystery behind the constant disconnection since they do not owe any bill.
They also thanked those who came out to condemn the corrupt lifestyle of some of the officials of Power Holding and called on all to police all government installations in their area to avoid any vandalization, especially now that the quality of electricity has improved by the state government under Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi. ###
