The crime rate in the Treasure Base of the nation, Rivers State has dropped by 30 percent, compared to last two year’s statistics, it has been learnt.
The Executive Secretary of Veteran Journalists under the aegis of League of Veteran Journalists (LVJ), Senibo Dr. Augustus A. Cookey, revealed this while chatting with pressmen in Port Harcourt over the weekend. On the League’s assessment of crime rate in the entire local government areas and the State capital, adding that cases of car snatching, house-breaking and pilfering have also reduced drastically.
He continued, “the police authorities led by Police Commissioner, Suleiman Abba said “we are not sleeping and will not, until all miscreants are routed from the State capital and its environs. We are working very hard to address security challenges in the state through the cooperation of all friendly forces in the state which include Nigerian Army, Nigerian Navy, Nigerian Airforce, State Security Services and Rivers C4 Centre.
The scribe also noted that the police worked with the enormous efforts of the Civil Defence Corps, the National Road Safety Corps, the Man O’war, Rivers State Neighbourhood Watch and the Rivers State Traffic Control Marshall, and of course the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC).
He quoted the Police Commissioner as saying “we have mapped out measures to tackle security challenges and to close gaps in our defence apparatus which has made it extremely difficult for those criminals and criminally minded individuals to seek refuge in the State capital.
