Rivers State Government is poised to create data bank that will be used to facilitate job employment opportunities to the unemployed indigenes.
The Commissioner for Employment Generation and Empowerment, Hon lpalibo Harry, who made this known today in his office said he observed that the innovation will ensure an up-to-date data base of unemployed youths of the State origin and in a bid to use the data as a yardstick for open job employment to the indigenes.
Hon, Ipalibo Harry said the collation will also serve as economic development and equity on both Exclusive List and State Government Order year 2000 in Job Creation and therefore enjoined all graduates and artisans of the state to avail themselves of the on-going registration exercise.
When contacted on the number so far registered the Director of Employment in the Ministry – Mr. Ibiba Dokubo said the statistics is not yet ascertained as the exercise is on the increase daily.
Earlier, the Hon. Commissioner has re-iterated the government determination to empower people through engaging them in meaningful projects of “turning waste to wealth ventures” by gathering empty plastic bottles and can drinks for re-fabrication.
The Hon. Commissioner said the depot which situates at plot 11 Abacha Road beside Groove School, GRA, Port Harcourt, is for easy access for re-furbishers who later turn these wastes into useful products.
Hon. lpalibo Harry said the effort is to empower people financially and economically as every one hundred can drinks/ plastic bottles turned-in attracts one thousand naira N1,000 and also contributes to keep the streets and drainages in Port Harcourt City and its environs clean of such dirts especially during the rains, maintaining that the drive will help to eradicate crime, poverty and youth restiveness.
The Commissioner stressed that the state government has sunk about N3m on the project in a bid to empower the youths and therefore urged the indigenes to take the venture very seriously.
