The major achievement of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, these past 12 years they have been in power is said to be insecurity.
This was the view of the Rivers State chairman of the All Nigeria Peoples Party, ANPP, Barr. Julius Nwonfu, in a chat with newsmen, shortly on his return from his party’s National Executive Council meeting at Abuja.
According to him, “PDP has failed the nation and it is important to note that Nigerians are tired of them and are looking out for an alternative party which ANPP is going to provide”.
He disclosed that the problem of Nigeria is not the dearth of resources but good managers to manage her abundant resources.
The state chairman maintained that despite several promises by the PDP leaders on power reforms, improved school system, health sector, nothing has changed, while millions of naira are siphoned everyday through their budgetary allocations.
“There is no industry to absorb the ever increasing graduates churned out almost on daily basis, while our roads remain death traps that sends Nigerian citizens daily to their early graves.”
Chief Nwonfu made it known that Nigerians now sleep with their two eyes open as a result of the Boko Haram Islamic sect’s insurgence without any solution in sight.
On how the alternative party hopes to wrestle power from the ruling party, he pointed out that there was room for alignment and realignment of political parties in politics as what is permanent is the interest.
The ANPP state chairman used the opportunity to warn his party members who are in the habit of jumping from one party to the other to desist from doing so. He said that there was nothing wrong from people congratulating their friends and brothers who are appointed to positions of trust, but members should do so in their individual capacity and not in the name of the party.
He also informed the journalists that the party once set up a disciplinary committee to try the gluttonic and greedy members who have been trading with the ANPP name in the past, adding that there is sanity now in the party.
Comrade Nwonfu also used the opportunity to condemn the Federal Government’s removal of fuel subsidy, saying that the policy will not make any difference as the fuel importers remain the PDP loyalies.
He also disclosed that the FG did not bother to explain the details of the benefit to Nigerians.
For instance, he noted “Nigerians don’t know the number of liters of petrol used daily and so it is difficult to calculate the benefit”.
He also added that the building of new refineries is not the issue but how to maintain and make functional the existing ones.
