Etisalat Nigeria in collaboration with the British Council has ended training programme organized for Teacher in Port Harcourt, Rivers state.
The event was held at the Ministry of Justice Hall, secretariat, Port Harcourt on February 15, 2012.
In her address, Mrs. Mae O. Solomon a director in the ministry of Education said education should not be left with government alone, rather, individuals and corporate organizations should contribute for its growth.
The director who represented the permanent secretary, ministry of education called on others to emulate Etisalat to contribute their quota to the much needed development in the area of education by the president administration, saying government cannot do everything alone.
Responding on behalf of the teachers, Mrs. Choice Akani, thanked Etisalat and Bristish council for the gesture done to them, saying, the programme has thought them how to relate with their pupils and the use of modern technology for teaching in schools.
Addressing media men after the event, the Etisalat Director of Brand and Communication, Mr. Eniton Diloye said their company is built to focus on the education in Nigeria.
On the issue of the rural communities to benefit from the programme, he said they are with the urban communities for now, but over the years they will extend to the rural communities as education is paramount to the development of Nigeria, as countries like India and China have over the years focused on education.
He said they were satisfied with the quality of training given to the teachers and the British Council and other stakeholders have done a good job.
On her part, the Representative of British Council, Ejioma Agoba, Central Manager British council Port Harcourt, said the British council focused on three areas, namely English, Education and society and arts. She said the learning of English, teaching of English and education, generally formed the core part of their organization strategy.
Ejioma positioned that their focus is so important to them and that they are very confident in the quality of work and the materials during the training and that it will impact positively on all.
On the challenge, she said government and people in authority and organizations should come to the realization of what the needs are to channel the scarce resources to the area.
The Regional Head, South-South, South-East, Etisalat Nigeria, Mr. Aja Enekwachi has earlier said that the Teachers are happy with what Etisalat and the British council has done in respect of the training.
Mr. Aja said what the company is doing is key to the development of Nigeria and that no other communication company can challenge that.
Advising the public, Mr. Aja said Etisalat has come to bail Nigerians out in terms of the services they render to them and ask all to use Etisalat as there are products for all classes of people in the society.
Certificates were presented to participating teachers at the events. ###
