The chairman of Andoni local government, Hon. Oron Nte has declared expectation of 100% immunization of all children in the area against poliomitis in the going exercise.
Speaking to newsmen shortly after the flagging off of immunization at Uyanda on Saturday, February 1`, 2012, he said this will be possible as the traditional rulers and specialists have been involved in addressing the people making them to know that polio is real and destructive.
According to the council boss, a child infected with poliomitis was presented to the audience during the flagging off and they felt it, and it was explained how diseases cause sicknesses and kill and ignorantly, people continue to accuse their aged relatives for inflicting sickness on them and even kill in the neighbourhood.
He warned parents who have been hiding children from immunization to change and that immunization exercise is free and has no after effect, insisting that every child must be immunized.
He said the campaign is carried from the Headquarters to the interiors to get the people at the grassroots. A
Also speaking, the council supervisor for Health, Elder Sampson Egop who confirmed that the council has sent out competent health officers to the field, said every child would be immunized to reduce polio to zero level in the LGA.
Sampson who is also the vice chairman of the council said though no data for the polio victims has been taken in the LGA, polio must be fought even in its absent as its intrusion may be delicate. ###
