The Rivers State environmental sanitation Authority RSESA has demolished over 50 illegal structures in Rivers State.
The chairman of the state environmental sanitation authority, Mr. Isoboye Jack, in a chat with journalists during the exercise in Port Harcourt, said the exercise was in line with the state government determination to get rid of illegal markets and street trading across the state which have defaced the city of Port Harcourt and its environment. He assured that it would be a continuous process until all the unwanted structures are demolished.
On if the law will be enforced, the sanitation boss noted that the law against illegal structures must be enforced to ensure that the offenders are prosecuted as a deterrent to others and will disallow the re-surfacing of illegal structures in the state.
On if the illegal structures owners were notify before embarking on the exercise, Mr. Jack noted that the authority has given them notice a week both on radio, television and prints before the exercise and warned all illegal structures owners to desist from defacing the street of Port Harcourt.
Meanwhile some of the places visited such as Garrison, MTN Road, Rumukurushi, Eleme junction, Akpajo axis, among others were sign posts declaring, “offenders shall be prosecuted, be warned. By the Rivers state Environmental sanitation authority. ###
