Ex-Eagles Add Colour To Gokana Unity Cup

The town of Mogho stood still as Ex-eagles stars dazzled the people of the Mogho town with their experience in football artistry as they filed out against Politician fc of the Peoples Democratic Party of the area.
Notable among the ex-Eagles are Peter Rufai, Mutiu Adepoju, Nduka Ugbade, Victor Anosa Ikpeba of the 1994 world cup eagles line up. Charles Anasiedor of Super Sports also made the ex-Eagles party. It was an entertainment galore as these stars graced the grand finale of Gokana Unity Cup competition 2011 played at Mogho Central Playfield on December 26, 2011.
The Politician Fc was captained by immediate past chairman of the local government area now commissioner for works, Rivers State, Hon. Victor Giadom, Fred M. Igwe current chairman, Hon. Demua L. Demua among others constituted the Politician FC. The final score read 1-1 apiece.
Before the match proper, the politician women FC also shared in the high epoch-making grand finale of the Gokana unity football competition. It was quite entertaining as fun was created from their magical touch ending in goalless.
The keenly contested finals saw I. S.Kogbara FC outwitting Engineer Domkpe FC 3 2 in a penalty shootout. The third place went to Orange FC.
Speaking on the occasion, the chairman of Gokana local government area, Hon. Demua L. Demua disclosed that the stadium being embarked by the local government area will be completed next year stressing that by his grace the competition will be play on that stadium.
Fred Igwe, on his speech commended the chairman of the local government area for his foresight in embarking on such a meaningful project for the youths. Describing the stadium as one of the best in the country that a local government has embarked upon, he stated that the chairman has done was keying into one of Governor Amaechi’s grassroots sports development.
Otelemaba Dan Amachree, Speaker of Rivers State House of Assembly pledged N2oo,ooo to support the first team (victorious team) as a way of supporting their effort to grow. Senator Magnus Abe took the kick off and also donated a reasonable amount to the winning team, followed by the immediate past chairman, Victor Giadom and Hon. (Dr.) Innocent Barikor, member Rivers State House of Assembly, representing Gokana Constituency.
The ongoing stadium promised to be one of the best amongst the projects embarked upon by a single local government council within Nigeria, as it comprised of other sporting facilities in it.
Indigenes of Gokana who participated in the Rivers team that featured in 17th National Sports Festival were also honoured by the Gokana local government area authority.
The Newswriter Sports Desk was told that the sports men and women are from soccer, athletics, boxing and kung fu that made the state and Gokana proud by grabbing gold medals.
