The Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, Rivers state, paid a condolence visit to the family of late Prof. Abiye Obuoforibo who died recently, on Saturday, January 7, 2011.
The delegation led by Esuku Esuku, Chairman of the party in Rivers state, comprised of the Woman leader, Mrs Clarisbel Whyte, the Publicity Secretary, Jerry Needam, Lali Green and others, was received by the son, Mr Andrew Obuoforibo.
The chairman said they were there on behalf of the party and its leader, Dr. Abiye Sekibo, to express their sorrow with the family over the loss of their father.
He said it was a big loss both for the party and the entire state as Prof. Obuoforibo believed in justice, truth and fair play.
Esuku said the late Professor was needed most at this time of his departure to ensure that proper service is rendered to the people.
“To us as a party, indeed it is a big loss to the Rivers people who believe in justice, truth and fair play. This is the time we need him most because as an organization we are still on track to ensure that proper service is rendered to our people in Rivers state”, Esuku stated.
Continuing, he said, “Those of us, especially those who are taking over from him as a family have a big challenge, looking at the road map God has made him to go through”, adding, “we remember him for his best wishes for Rivers People.”
Responding, the son, Mr Andrew Obuoforibo said he was grateful for the visit and has realized that his father was a father to many people.
He said the visit was very touching and showed that his father was remembered.
“I am happy to see all of you pay this condolence visit. It is very touching. It shows that he is remembered”, he said, adding, “It is wonderful to have you all here. My father left great shoes to wear. His children have to emulate his example to do what is right for our people, for ourselves, for the nation at large. He was a man who never shied away from doing that which is right, no matter what will happen to him. That is something that my brothers and I will try to emulate.”
He said they would continue working in the public field to make the state a better place.
Service of songs would be held at the Civic Centre on Wednesday, January 18, 2012, while the burial will follow on Saturday, January 21 at Okrika.
