The Divisional Police Officer incharge of Central Police Station, (CPS) Mr. Ahmed Abdul (CSP) and State Chairman of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Hon. Austine Young, were honoured with the DPO of the Decade award and Chairman of the Decade award respectively.
The award ceremony was part of activities marking the end of year party of the CPS Division of the Police Community Relations Committee last week-end held at the premises of the Central Police Station.
Several awards were also conferred on several performing individuals in their respective fields of endeavours.
Some of those honoured include, Chief, Sir, Eben Organ, Inspector Sunday Jacob, as the most punctual officer to duty, Inspector Amanikpo Amanikpo as the most neatly dressed officer as well as three other traffic warders of the Police Force.
In his remark on behalf of the Police awardees, the DPO Mr. Abdul said there is always a reward for doing good, consciously or not, because whatever a man does, there may be an eye watching which may come to light in just a day.
Mr Abdul who was physically elected promised on behalf of the officers to do better, maintaining that community policing is the best approved practice in policing an area.
The DPO commended the relationship existing between the police and the various communities within his area of jurisdiction, positing that the various community chairmen had been of tremendous assistance to the police in preventing and combating crimes.
According to the DPO, “We are here to prevent and combat crime. We serve as watch dog of the society, and the people should also serve as our watch dog and correct us where and whenever we went wrong”.
He further called for more cordial relationship believing that the police cannot work alone without the people.
The State Chainman of the PCRC, Hon. Austine Young dedicated his award to God, his Church, Winners Chapel and his family.
According to him, most of his experiences and actions in the running of PCRC were tapped from the altar of his church which was given by God, while his family, bore the difficulties and challenges of his administering the organization.
Hon. Young who maintained that, “No individual can run or administer the PCRC without God”, applauded the CPS division of the PCRC for interpreting the missions of the PCRC at the state and equally domesticating it at the divisional level.
While calling on other divisions to emulate the CPS Division, Hon. Young lauded the CPS division for organizing a forum that drew attention of well meaning citizens to the knowledge of PCRC and assured the division of the state commitment and intension for result-oriented service next year especially by commissioning their ongoing project.
The state chairman who enumerated the five elements of PCRC to include; quality service delivery; partnership, empowerment, problem solving and accountability as propounded by Robert Kio in 1829, said since service is a veritable tool in man’s affair it was dangerous for one to be on the fence.
Hon. Young, stressed that “the most dangerous place to stand is on the middle of the road”, positing that there is no neutrality value in life. He called on citizens to stop criticizing the police but rise up to the challenges of building a crime free society by partnering with the police.
Earlier, the divisional chairman of PCRC, Pastor Walter Inegbenoise in his welcome address had requested assistance from spirited members of the public to enhance the completion of their building project, which on completion will boast of a conducive meeting environment between the public and the police.
He used the occasion to eulogize the capabilities of both the DPO, Mr. Ahmed Abdul (CSP) and state chairman, Hon. Austine Young, for their tirelessness in making PCRC a working organization in the division.
Similarly, the railway division of the PCRC had called on all companies, organizations and well meaning individuals as well as all business owners within the railway residential areas to join hands in making the PCRC a working organization in the area.
Speaking at the end of year party, Chairman of the divisional PCRC Chief Alexious Nwakama said “We implore you to participate in the work we are doing to make it effective and efficient. ###
