A prominent chief in Rivers State, Chief Owabie Tobin, the Eze Onumini I of Port Harcourt City Local Government Area has called on Dr. Goodluck Jonathan the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to have a rethink and revise his plan to remove the fuel subsidy.
In a chat with the political editor of The Newswriter Newspaper, Chief Owabie Tobin who recalled the clamour against removal of fuel subsidy by Nigerians since its pronouncement noted that such was not the interest of Nigerians, stressing that it will affect his government and bring about shame to his government and those who elected him into office as the common man would not support him on the issue.
The royal father also advised him not to go on with his intention to reinstate toll gates which General Olusegun Obasanjo, the former President has destroyed when he was in office in 2007, adding that the removal of fuel susidy and re-installation of toll gates in the federation would add to the hardship witnessed by a lot of Nigerians in the past. He said it would not go well with the common man and that the re-instatement of toll gate is like bringing backwardness to Nigeria.
Eze Tobin advised Dr. Jonathan to tow the line of late Alhaji Umaru Musa Yar’Adua who did not re-instate toll gates but piloted the affairs of the nation effectively in the best interest of Nigeria within his short period in power.
The royal father commended governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, the governor of Rivers State for the successful hosting of CARNIRIV which lasted for one week and has reawakened the cultural heritage of Rivers people and reminded the public that King Alfred Diete Spiff, the former military governor of Rivers State was the only governor that could be compared with Amaechi in times of developmental strides, adding that governor Amaechi has performed wonderful within his four years and some months in office.
The Eze Onumini I of Port Harcourt City local government area revealed that some ACN and APGA members were compelling him to clash with governor Amaechi for marking his House for demolition at Number 102 Akokwa street, Mile 2 Diobu Port Harcourt after supporting him in the election and all his policies, as well as some members of Akokwa street who advised him to write petition against him (Amaechi) on the demolition issue.
Reacting to these advices, Chief Tobin vowed not to fight against Governor Amaechi because he is a good governor whose aim of demolition was to transform Port Harcourt to a garden city status and appealed to Amaechi to compensate him handsomely after demolishing his houses.
He further appealed to governor Amaechi to recognize his chieftaincy title “the Eze Onumini I of Port Harcourt City by enrolling him in his government.
The royal father who noted that Mr. Isoboye Jack the chairman of the Rivers State Environmental Sanitation Authority has performed wonderfully within is short period in office as he has maintained a high level of clean environment in the Port Harcourt metropolis, commended him for the gesture and advised him not to relent in his good work.
