NGO Launches Mentoring Project For Adolescents

A non governmental organization, Leadership Affairs Character Excellence (LACE), has launched it’s maiden mentoring project at the Holy Rosary College, Port Harcourt, on Tuesday, December 13, 2011.
The founder of the organization, Ms. Medline Ingowari Tador (JP) General Manager of the Rivers State Broadcasting Corporation, reiterated that young people needed to be groomed, nurtured, redirected and mentored, to make them become better leaders. She stressed that parents have a very big role to play in the lives of the adolescents.
She identified some of the problems of the adolescents such as inability to say no to what is wrong, negligence by parents and guardians making wrong choices in friendships and relationships, experimenting with life, disobedience to parents, etc.
Ms. Mediline Tador, during the interactive session with the students, pointed out factors that could salvage the lives of the adolescents. They include the ability to say no to sin, making right friends, being able to speak out, being obedient to parents, teachers, and guardians.
Answering pertinent questions from the articulate students who displayed creativity during the forum, Ms. Tador advised, “Identify your gifts and talents. Don’t let your dreams and talents die, develop your self through learning, pray to God during difficult moments and be bold to share your problems. If you fail get up and keep walking with trust and faith in God. Above all be obedient and shun all anti-social vices”.
She thanked Rev. Ugochukwu Unachukwu for his spiritual and fatherly support on the project and revealed that the project will be on going.
Earlier, the principal of the college, Barr. (Lady) Vero Efika, in her welcome speech, expressed satisfaction for the gesture and honour done her by Ms. Medline Tador with her hardworking team at the first visit.
“You have shown us the way, you have shown you love us, you have shown you have love for young people. When ever you need our attention, call us, we will be there for you. We are indeed privileged,”she stated.
The highlights of the occasion were cultural dance flavoured with indigenous gospel choruses, carol by the school choir questions and answers session, as well as presentation of the college’s maiden magazine titled HOROCO to the team by Mrs. Efika.
Dignitaries who attended the event include, Academic and non academic staff of Holy Rosary College, LACE team members, Ms. Florence Ekiye (Dir. Of programme, RSBC), Mrs. Utomi Janewari, Pst. Annie Smart, Mrs. Damiete, Author Angela Inyena Anietie and Miss Blossom Queen. ###
