Come 15th December, 2011, a vibrant sports journalist of high repute will be gathering the rest of the football world as he launches his book titled, :Hooliganism, violence and security in soccer,” at Genesis Restaurant, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
Onoja James Abutu, is one of the sports journalists that has confidence in sports journalism and has toiled for it, staying awake, monitoring and covering news not minding the hazard before him. In modesty, Onoja James Abutu’s live for sports reporting, makes him care less of food when involved in covering sports, to report it back to the public with juicy taste.
In honesty, Onoja James Abutu is one sports journalist that has been around for some time. With commitment, it is then no wonder that he has come up with a book to ease his burning desire for sports reporting for the public.
Speaking to The Newswriter sports desk, the Author of the book, disclosed that he was prompted by the loss of souls of soccer fans within the space of one month, pointing out that, Africa lost 175 soccer fans within one month.
He stressed that Ghana, south Africa and Congo experienced tragedy in the year 2001, where 175 soccer fans lost their lives through soccer hooliganism.
He further revealed that he got the idea of publishing a book on soccer hooliganism and therefore went collecting datas and facts to get a comprehensive book on soccer hooliganism for the public to curb the menace of hooliganism in our stadia.
Onoja James Abutu, confided in The Newswriter Sports desk, that he did not write the book because of financial gain, rather it was written to correct the mistakes of soccer fans in indulging in hooliganism in the stadium.
He said he gave kudos to former Green Eagles winger, chief Adokiye Amiesiemeka for his valuable contribution to the book, positing that his purpose of writing the book was to create awareness and solution to soccer management in the African continent.
He highlighted that the book has the history of Nigeria Football Federation, history of CAF and history of FIFA and generally the history of soccer.
The author advised soccer fans to view the game of soccer as fun, as a positive game that must produce a winner, urging soccer fans to understand that the referees, the police, all are part of some errors that come with the game, so fans should only enjoy the game and go back home without problems.
Onoja James Abutu called on soccer fans to buy the book. In that way he will be fulfilled while also calling on all soccer lovers to attend the book launch, come December 15th 2011. ###
