Senator Magnus Abe representing Rivers South-East Senatorial District in the National Assembly has faulted Federal Government approach to addressing some of the challenges that propelled the late Ken Saro-Wiwa and others protest the injustice against the Ogonis just as he commend Governor Chibuike Amaechi over development in the area.
He was speaking during a Conference/Town Hall meeting commemorating the 16th anniversary of the Hanging of Ogoni 9 organized by the Movement for the Survival of Ogoni People (MOSOP) in Phoenix, Arizona, United States of America.
Senator Abe lauded the conferees for their patriotic spirit in keeping the struggle aglow in spite of challenges bedeviling them as a people and sued for persistency, emphasizing that “In the journey of life, one can create his own destination”
The Ogoni born legislator who is the Chairman, Senate Joint Committee, Investigating the Fuel Subsidy Scheme urged the people to dissipate energy towards meaningful venture and stressed the need for unity to attain a virile Ogoniland.
While urging Ogonis to appreciate the government of Governor Amaechi for his sincere gesture towards them, he encouraged those in the Diaspora to visit home and see for themselves projects inaugurated and those currently on, in the area, at the instance of the Amaechi administration.
“When you see the infrastructure our Governor is putting in place, designed to enhance the quality of life of the citizenry despite scarce resources, you will appreciate his government” he declared and assured that his presence in the Senate will be anchored on adequate consultation and meaningful engagement with the constituents.
