Robbers Kill Corporal At Ikwerre Road

Men of the underworld performed their dastardly act in broad daylight, on the busyIkwerre Road,Port Harcourt, attacking a van and killing two men in the process.

At about 1520hrs on Monday, October 17, 2011, the gang of armed men operating in a Toyata Camry, attacked a Hilux van Reg. No. 758 ONG RB that left Diamond bank,Ikwerre Road, Mile one, Diobu.

A police corporal serving with the SOS, escorting the van and the driver were shot, resulting to their death.

Combined efforts of Diobu Police and the bank’s guards who responded swiftly, forced the robbers to flee, leaving behind the van.

The sum of N1.5m was recovered in it, while investigation has been intensified by the police to effect the arrest of the culprits, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Rivers Command, Ben Ugwuegbulam, stated.

In another development, the police arrested two armed robbers and recovered a stolen vehicle on Monday, October 24, 2011.

According to the PPRO, policemen at a Special Check point, Akpajo, received a distress call from the control room of the command that a golf 3 has been snatched by armed men at Cassablanca,Port Harcourt, property of one Joshua.

Few minutes later, the alerted team intercepted the said vehicle and arrested the culprits, Victor E., Ogechi and Bernard.

They confessed to the crime, claiming that they used pepper and physical beating to rob the owner of the vehicle.

They also revealed that their accomplice resides at a neighbouring state and purchases all stolen vehicles from them.
