Lamentation of Oyigbo Town

I am raped and cheated

In my folly for being accommodative

My blood, my own sailed me like a ship

A sea of no importance to demand

What is required of me is silence and prayer

But I should have known that

Even at my mercy, I am mocked

Rejected, abused, while they smile

Year in year out, they laugh at me

They undress me for the laughter of all the public

The government refuses justice

They used my name to attain positions

Shun me to make all the wealth for themselves

Buy cars of assorted colours, neglect my happiness

Stole in my name, to buy recognition

Relegate me to the background

Expose me to public ridicule

Is all they do.

While they eat fat and happy

What a life I have suffered

Who will help me out of my situation?

Like a gang all become one

To steal, rape me to make ends meet

My roads are death traps

Even to my shame for their happiness

Who among them could be real?

No, not one, even in their conscience

What a pitiable sight I have become

Too shameful even to look at anyone.

Am I also part ofRiversState?

The state I was once proud of?

No matter my contribution to the state

No matter my commercial input.

Have I not helped in the area of accommodation?

I carry part of the state loads

Yet, no one speaks for me in my sadness

I have become the neglected one

Among the comity of states

Even in the federation

Who will speak for me?

And I could be heard in my pain

My sons are all wise cheats

Cheating me to be mocked by all strangers

But for my silence all goes on well with them

I count nothing even in my pain

I have been abused as the undeveloped LGA

Chastened as the only dirty LGA.

Where are my senators

The House of Representatives members?

My chairmen, where are they?

They are the ones, who have slandered me

I have no name among the LGAs

May heaven be merciful to me in my plight,

I continue to pray each day

To be helped out of my prison

From my captors’ hands

My sons, for heaven sake

To be happy like other LGAs

InRiversState, my dear state

To be free once and all

Also to enjoy development

This is my prayer unto Yahweh

The grand creator of Heaven and Earth.
