Amaechi Assures Security, Free Education …As Nigeria Celebrates 51st Anniversary

As Nigerians celebrate the 51st Independence Day anniversary, the Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to provide adequate security, education and health in the state.

Addressing youths, students, stakeholders and the public during the celebration at the Liberation Stadium Elekahia,Port Harcourt,  Governor Amaechi noted that 51 years ago whenNigeriabegan to build  this great nation, there were challenges that confronted the nation but Nigerians were able to succeed despite all odds.  He stressed that Nigeria’s economy is growing at an amazing rate of 8%, pointing out that Rivers State was doing its best at ensuring social economy, adequate security, free education in primary and secondary schools and primary health care delivery.

He emphasized that, in this month of October over 3,000  students from Rivers State who were sent to Senegal, four years ago on scholarship to study in various faculties such as ITC, law, medicine, engineering, among others, have completed their studies and have arrived in  the state, adding that the state government has trained about 350 Rivers state indigenes  in various skills for the on-going Songhai farm in Ogoni axis of the state, adding that it was in this premise that Rivers State government was determined to ensure security that would protect lives and property of all citizens, as well as ensure good governance and accountability.

The celebration witnessed musical performances, cultural display from Ogu/Bolo and Bonny as well as presentation of awards and prizes to some schools inRiversStatethat emerged winners.

They are, Governor’s schools debate competition, Junior secondary category, Obio/Akpor LGA, 1st winner, Etche LGA 2nd, Khana LGA 3rd.

Senior secondary school category, Phalga 1st , Asari/Toru LGA 2nd, Etche LGA 3rd.

March past competition at the anniversary, Nursery category: Esi Nursery 1st , Sea Shell Nursery 2nd , Family Support Nursery 3rd.

Primary school category:OrogbumPrimary School3rd,OlanadaPrimary School2nd,ElekahiaPrimary School1st.

Para-military category: Army Command, 1st, Nigerian Police, 2nd, Nigerian Prison 3rd.

Voluntary Organization category: Man O war 3rd, Royal Ambassador 2nd, WAI Brigade 1st.
