Rivers State Government Demolishes Lagos Bus Stop Market

The Rivers State Government has demolished part of the market near theLagosbus so as to create route for the ongoing monorail project in the area.

The Honourable Commissioner for Transport, Hon. George Tolofari stated that the fence facing King Amachree road would  also be demolished and traders doing their businesses there would be relocated to an undisclosed venue.

The Commissioner said this while inspecting the monorail project alongGovernment House RoadPort Harcourt. He pointed out that it was against international safety practice for traders to do business on the monorail route.

Hon. Tolofari appealed to the traders to be patient and show understanding with the government as the project would be beneficial to all and sundry who do business inPort Harcourt.

Commenting on the situation, the Mayor of Port Harcourt City Local Government, Hon. Chimbiko Akarolo, who was also part of the inspection team, assured the traders that government would relocate those that could show evidence of being registered with government.

Speaking as the Chairman of the Market Union, Mr. Jonny Batubo, also assured the Rivers State Government of his union’s preparedness to co-operate with the deadline of seven days given to them by the Rivers State Government.

The Commissioner was accompanied by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Gogo Isong and some heads of department in the Rivers State Transport Ministry. #####
