The Rivers state Honourable Commissioner for culture and tourism, Hon. Dr. Nnabuhe Imegwu, has disclosed that this year’s world tourism day would be officially hosted byEgyptwith the famous rich history and vibrant culture, which has drawn millions of tourists to the country, each year.
He made this revelation while addressing journalists in his office, to create awareness of the importance of the World Tourism Day.
According to him, millions of people from different cultural backgrounds were brought together around the world to interact and exchange ideas.
Hon. Dr. Imegwu said world Tourism Day is an excellent opportunity to raise awareness around the world for this vital economic sector and its contribution to social, economic and environmental well-being of the world andNigeriain particular.
He pinpointed that millions of people from different cultures are brought together because of Tourism.
The commissioner planned this year’s world Tourism Day 2011 activities inPort Harcourt, the state capital with the theme “Tourism Linking culture”.
The event promised to include high level think tank on this year’s theme with presentation of awards to outstanding icons.
Speaking further, the commissioner saidEgyptwas chosen to host the world Tourism Day because of its rich history and vibrant culture which has generated lots of wealth through that sector for the country.
He appealed to well meaning residents to make use of the opportunity culture and tourism present to them in their lives. #####
