Fred Igwe Alerts Players of Diobu Of Amaechi Cup

COMMISSIONER FOR SPORTThe Rivers State Commissioner for Sports, Hon. Fred Mbombom Igwe has given out his signal to youths of Diobu area of Port Harcourt to get ready for Gov. Chibuike Amaechi’s street soccer talents hunt programme, saying that the second phase of Gov. Amaechi Soccer Streets Unity and Peace Competition will soon commence in the Diobu axis before the year runs out.

Hon. Igwe made this call to the youths of Diobu while speaking to sports journalists in Port Harcourt.

Amaechi Streets Peace and Unity Soccer Cup Competition was the programme of the state Governor aimed at discovering budding hidden talents in the streets of Port Harcourt as to give them a sense of belonging in soccer career they have chosen for themselves.

To this effect, the governor built and renovated the moribund stadia of old Port Harcourt township and also test ran it with the maiden edition of the competition, where lots of aspiring talents were discovered from the programme.

In Station Street, Julius Gideon was discovered, now Gideon plays for one of the premiership clubs in the Nigeria Glo Professional Football League.

In the same vein, Sokari Bobby the best player discovered from that competition is now playing for Enyimba Football Club of Aba and many other discovered players from that competition are now playing for other clubsides in the country.

The Amaechi Street Peace and Unity soccer competition is one of the best things that had happened to the youths of Rivers State, as it has started yielding dividend across Port Harcourt city, the capital of Rivers State.

Who knows how many budding hidden talents will be discovered from the Diobu axis, now that the competition is to kick off in Diobu soonest.

Diobu is known for its production of notable soccer talents. Some of them have played for the national team and also represented the country internationally.

Diobu is a breeding ground for soccer talents. The likes of Taribo West, Finidi George, current captain of the Super Eagle, Joseph Yobo and many more are all products of Diobu soccer competitions.

Governor Amaechi is about to make another history as he is preparing to commence another soccer discovering programme in Diobu, it is expected that more Finidi George, Taribo West and Joseph Yobo will be discovered as the streets peace and unity programme in Diobu commences. ###
