Football in Rivers State have a challenge, the once den of players for the national team has all of a sudden could not produce quality players to the national team, the Super Eagles.
Sharks and Dolphins used to be the hope of footballers of Rivers State to make it to the Super Eagles. Sharks produced Chief Adokiye Amiesemake, Peter Rufai, Richard Owubokiri and Finidi George to the national team “the green Eagles and later Super Eagles and many more, today, the story is different.
In our burning desire to know why Sharks and Dolphins could not produce quality players to the Super Eagles, The Newswriter sports anchored a stakeholder of Nigeria football, Barr. Karibi George, the Public Relation Officer of Nigeria football supporters club, why Sharks and Dolphins no loner produce players to the national team “the Super Eagles”.
In his response, he asked, are there academic? According to him, the few academies in Port Harcourt, the capital city of Rivers State, are not functioning, noting that management of Sharks and Dolphins are just buying players, making it not producing quality players to the Super Eagles, like in those good old days, when players were discovered from schools and academics raw to constitute the state owned teams like Sharks, Dolphins and the national teams, saying that is where the likes of Adokiye Amiesemaka, Richard Owubokiri and Finidi George got the opportunity to play for the Super Eagles.
Today the trend has changed as players are bought from clubsides instead of feeding the state teams from academies and school competitions. ###
